Failed Book Shopping

I wasn't supposed to buy any books this month. But when I heard that Periplus was having 50% off book sale, I couldn't help it. Just if you wonder, the sale is still on until May 5th. I warn you, don't put your expectation too high for the book sale.

Yesterday, I went to Pondok Indah Mall a.k.a PIM. I was hoping to get lots of cheap books. The books were actually cheap but the condition were ugly. I was about to buy: Pure By Julianna Baggot but the condition of the book was terrifying, so I decided not to buy it. Most of the books that have been on sale were in Mass Paperback and I hate Mass Paperback. I can't read a book with suck paper quality.

In the end I didn't buy any books from Periplus. But it didn't mean I didn't get new book. So I went to Kinokuniya and bought one book. I couldn't help it. It was Hardcover and the price was crazy.

The Selection By Kiera Cass.
Guess how much for this beautiful hardcover copy?
It was only 117.000 IDR. Not it wasn't on discount, it was the original price. I didn't really understand how the hardcover could be much cheaper than the paperback. I just bought it without any second thought.

The main reason I've been wanting to read this book is because my best friend from Junior High wrote a similar book like this one. Well, her book isn't published whatsoever. It's not even finished yet. But the similarity between hers and Cass is just ridiculous!
So yeah, that was why I decided to buy this one. Besides, it was so cheap. I couldn't help it.

The thing about me, I always reorganized my bookshelf everytime I buy new books. Here some pictures of my new organized bookshelf.

Upper Shelf
Lower shelf

Okay, The Selection is my last book for this month. I think I won't buy any new books for the next couple of months. I will save my money for something else and will try to finish books that I haven't yet read.

That's all for today.
Have a nice day.

MOVIE REVIEW: Beautiful Creatures

BEAUTIFUL CREATURES

Warning: This movie review is from book reader point of view. If you're looking an actual review of this movie, you're in the wrong place.

Just went to a cinema with the guys from school. I know... guys watching Beautiful Creatures... I'm not kidding. Some of friends who had watched the movie told me the movie was great whatsoever. I was hoping for the same thing about the movie since Beautiful Creatures is one of my favorite book.

Beautiful Creatures (movie) was terrible. I hate it with all my heart. I hate it, more than I hate The Host. Why? Because I actually like the book and I can't believe they ruined the movie. So basically they're trying to make Beautiful Creatures as stand alone movie and not as a series.

In order to do such things, a lot of changes need to be done. The story line changed. The pacing of the movies was incredibly fast and yet annoyed me quite much. Unlikely the book, the love story moved so fast. Too fast. Making it like any other Paranormal Teen Romance with cheesy conversation and love confession. There were lots - and by lots I mean LOTS of scene that totally different from the book.

There was no Boo Radley, Lena's dog. There was no Marian in the movie. What the fuck? When there was no Madge in The Hunger Games movie, I got it. Because Madge wasn't that important in the book. But Marian, Marian is so important. Her role in the book is pretty big! I can't believe it.

Do I have to mention the ending? They changed the fucking ending so this movie could be this stand alone Paranormal Teen Romance!!
They changed the WHOLE FREAKING THINGS in this movie. Brutally changed. Adding too much scenes, making the movie irrelevant with the book.

Alice Englert was beautiful. I really liked her as Lena Duchannes. But need to admit her acting wasn't so good. She was okay. Overall, the casts were okay. It's unacceptable. The changes they did...I can't tolerate it. I hate it. I don't understand why Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl let this kind of things happened.

I'd rather have my book not adapted into movie than watching my book brutally edited like that. The original touch of Beautiful Creatures is officially ruined for me.
The most annoying part was the guys actually kinda liked the movie! What the......
They said it was quite good. Kinda boring, but it was okay.

For me, the movie is suck. I hate it. I don't know whether it's because I had read the book or simply because it suck. I can't decide. But I believe I wouldn't have liked it either if I hadn't had read the book before. The romance wasn't that good. It was cheesy, nothing was too different from Twilight Saga. I even found myself enjoying Twilight Saga movie more than I enjoyed Beautiful Creatures.

“Mortals. I envy you. You think you can change things. Stop the universe. Undo what was done long before you came along. You are such beautiful creatures.” - Macon Ravenwood

I love this line. It was said by Macon Ravenwood. He didn't say this line in the movie. Last thing that need to be mentioned here.... there was no Crescent moon in the movie. There wasn't even Sixteen Moon song.

I hate this movie entirely. I will continue reading Caster Chronicles and pretend that I've never watched this movie. If you had read the book, don't watch the movie. You'll be pissed like me or maybe you would enjoy it, I'm not sure.

I'm mad now. Freaking mad.

BEAUTIFUL CREATURES
By: Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl
Publisher: Little, Brown and Company

BOOK SYNOPSIS
Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power, and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.
Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.
In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

Beautiful Creatures is just released in Indonesia cinema and I'm thinking to write a review about the book that I actually had read last month.

We have Ethan Wate as the male protagonist and this book uses his point of view. Kind of different, isn't it? Usually writers use female point of view because it's so much easier. Because female are more sensitive and have more thoughts in their minds. This is one of many other things that I love from Beautiful Creatures. It gives a different touch. We can see things from guy point of view. How he sees girls, how he needs to keep his feeling for himself because guys don't talk about it. It's really interesting, I really love it.

The story sets in South Carolina. I love how both the writers write the dialogue between the characters in South Carolina accent, making this book feel more real. Although, I need to admit when I read it, I got a little bit confuse sometimes.

There's also a bullying issue in this book. The writers had succeeded for making me to put all my sympathy to Lena Duchannes. I kept reading this book because I really wanted to know what was going to happen next to Lena. I wanted to make sure she was okay. I know guys, she's fictional but it doesn't mean I can't have sympathy for the character.

Unlikely 'Shatter Me' (I know it's not relevant to compare this book with it), the love story between Ethan and Lena isn't forced. It develops as the story goes. It's not like any other teen romance. It's not Twilight. Ethan and Lena start as friend, hanging out together, saving each other ass and then as the time goes by they just fall in love for each other. I guess this book can make me think that perhaps everything in this book is not fictional at all because it feels kind of real.

The concept of this book isn't new. But thank goodness it's about witch and not Nephilim! Too much Paranormal Romance use Nephilim as it characters.
So, Caster. It's a new thing. Witch is not a polite way to call Lena Duchannes. They prefer the term 'Caster'. They take 'Witch' and 'Wizard' as an insult. Their power somehow is interesting especially Lena because she's a Natural.
The claimed part is also interesting, although I hate how the series are all about the claiming thing.

The pacing is really slow. I guess the writers want everything to be in detail and I don't like that kind of book. But this book is worth reading. The writing is great. The story is okay. Sure, I got bored in some parts. But still, this book worth 4 out of 5 stars. I can't wait to read the next book, Beautiful Darkness.

Holiday & Book Haul

First of all, I'd like to announce happily that my National Exams had finally over. After four days of madness and struggle, I'd finally finished my study. I know the announcement hasn't come out yet, but I'm quite sure I'm gonna pass. I have to or else I'd write my suicide note in this blog. (Just kidding; Not kidding)

School had been really hectic and I had no time to read anything. Since school is finally over, there's going to be a payback! This month I got quite much books. Some of them are secondhand books, I bought it from English Book Club ID's founder, Nicole. You can find Book Club ID's twitter by clicking this link.

Books of April:
1. Struck By Lightning By Chris Colfer
2. Mockingjay By Suzanne Collins

The Mortal Instruments Series By Cassandra Clare:
1. City of Ashes
2. City of Glass
3. City of Fallen Angels
4. City of Lost Souls

The Infernal Devices Series By Cassandra Clare:
1. Clockwork Angel
2. Clockwork Princess

I know in my previous post, I told you guys that I won The Hunger Games Box Set from Periplus. So why it isn't in my book haul this month?
Well, they did a mistake. They promised me The US box set but what I got was Asian Edition box set and the books were torn and folded. It also had "Damaged Book" label on it. I complained about my inconvenience and since the box set was out of stock, they offered me a Periplus voucher worth 200.000 IDR instead. I took the offer and got City of Lost Souls and Struck By Lightning.

I'm currently have no The Hunger Games series in my bookshelf except Mockingjay. I'd sold my translated copy and currently saving up my money to get the first two books before Catching Fire movie is released.

I replaced my translated copy of Clockwork Angel as well to match my other Infernal Devices series.
I know Clockwork Princess technically is not an April's book. But the book was arrived on April, so yeah....

I won't buy anymore books because I've spent so much money for books lately and I'm currently broke because of my farewell trip with they guys to Bali this May.

For you who had school done like me, Congratulation guys you've done your best! Now go to your bed, act like a lazy pig for a day because you deserve it!
For you who still having school for the next couple of months, yes I know your life's suck. Hahahaha, Just kidding. Good luck with your school.

P.S: For this long holiday, I'll be starting on writing again. I have this huge ideas of Dystopian World and I'm currently developing it. Wish me luck guys!

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Exclusive Teaser Trailer

How long have I been waiting for this? I'm not sure. Maybe since the first time I watched The Hunger Games. Maybe since I heard that they were filming Catching Fire. I can't be sure. But I'm sure enough, I've always been excited for a little spoiler. Photos from the set, Teaser poster and trailer. Have you ever watched a 2 minutes long teaser trailer? Does it called as teaser when it's two minutes long? Yes, it is. Why?

Because this trailer nearly gives me nothing. No appearance of the other tributes. No Quarter Quell scene. There's no hint how the arena gonna look like. This trailer is teasing me. I hate it. I want the actual trailer to release... NOW!

I love the music in this trailer. I love President Snow's speech though it sounds kind of cruel. We all hate him, but he has the charisma of being a cruel old man. There's a scene of Gale being whipped. The rebel old guy that got shot in the head for doing the three fingers thing. The rebellion in other district. Primrose Everdeen.

I can't imagine how the actual trailer gonna look like. Seriously.
The teaser trailer is so awesome that I got chill.
I can't wait for the actual trailer.
I can't wait to reread the book.
I can't wait for the movie.

November 22nd, 2013. It's gonna worth the wait guys. Believe me.

May the odds be ever in your favor, tributes.

First Book on April & Winning A Contest

Today is Friday, which means it's only a week away from the most terrifying part of being a national school student in Indonesia, National Exams. After being so terrified and depressed, I had nice things happening to me at the beginning of April.
There were two things that just happened (hopefully there will be more)

The first one... It's here people.. It's here...

Yep, my hardback copy of Clockwork Princess By Cassandra Clare. When I held the book in my hand for the first time, it didn't feel right. I think I'd prefer the Paperback but... meh...
I just want to read it right after I got it, but I still have 200 pages of Beautiful Creature that need to be read. I really hate school right now for taking away my reading time.

The excitement didn't end right there.

Periplus twitter account (@Periplus_Store) was having a contest for April Mop. The prize for the winner was this beautiful box set.

Guess who won it!
Yes people, I won it! I still can't believe that I could win the contest.
I was going to get the box set last month, but I decided not to get it because I didn't have much money. Thank God I didn't buy the box set!

April has been amazing so far. I can't wait for another surprises.

Wish me luck for my National Exam. Please.

CITY OF BONES OFFICIAL SECOND TRAILER

"Everyday you live your life ordinary, normal. But there's only so long you can't hide from the truth."

HOLY SHIT! Hodge's speech gave me chills!

Yes, it's here people! The official second trailer of THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: City of Bones. The trailer was showed at the Wondercon few days ago. But from today, all the Mundanes can watch it till they go nuts!

The thing about this trailer: IT IS SO MUCH COOLER THAN THE FIRST TRAILER! The first trailer was the reason I read City of Bones. But this second trailer makes me want to read all the books of The Mortal Instruments!
We can see lots of things in this trailer. Magnus Bane, Jocelyn Fray aka Clary's Mom, The werewolves pack and lots of other things!

I still think that Jamie Campbell doesn't fit as Jace Wayland, but I won't judge until I see the movie.

I can't wait for the movie to be released. Just reminding you once again, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones will be released on August 23rd. So relax, keep reading the books and wait until the movie hits the theater!
