It's not a secret that buying imported books in Indonesia is quite hard and expensive.

There are several bookstores that have imported books collection on their shelves around the country but most of their collections aren't satisfying.

I've been wanting to make this post since I first started this blog. Hopefully it would help you to find the perfect bookstore including online bookstore to buy your new books. The bookstores I listed down below are the ones that located in Jakarta. Some of them have their branches in other city as well. You can check their website which I will link it for you. Here we go!


1. Books Kinokuniya

Books Kinokuniya is a bookstore originally from Japan. It has lots of branches around the world and we're quite lucky to have it in Jakarta.

There are three Kinokuniya in Jakarta which all located at big mall: Grand Indonesia, Plaza Senayan and Pondok Indah Mall.

Kinokuniya Plaza Senayan has the biggest store with the most complete collections. You can find new releases books here. It also has lots of hardcover books which really hard to find in Indonesia. If you're a fan of Young Adult Fiction, Kinokuniya will be your heaven. It has all the newest YA Fiction in paperback form. Unfortunately, the price is crazy here. Most of the paperbacks start from 130.000 IDR. Some of the books are ridiculously expensive, twice (sometimes triple) the original price in US. If you're looking for classic literature, Kinokuniya has a really great collections including the Penguin Classic Edition.
Not only English literature, it also has collection of Japanese and Chinese literature.I recommend Kinokuniya if you want to go bookshopping and feeling satisfied with the collection, but brace your wallet because it won't be cheap.

2. Periplus

Periplus is one of my favorite bookstore. The collection isn't as complete as Kinokuniya, but it has a great collection as well.

The price is so much cheaper than Kinokuniya. It has lots of Mass Market Paperback collections, so if you're a fan of MMP, this is a perfect store for you.

Periplus has lots of branches around Jakarta and other cities. My favorite store are the ones that located at Plaza Indonesia and Plaza Senayan. I got most of my books from Periplus, especially the online store.
Periplus.com has been established since last year (if I'm not mistaken). It's currently developing its online store. Periplus.com is so far the best imported books online store in the country! You can order any kind of books on the website and it will ship the book directly from US. The biggest advantage is you don't have to pay the shipping cost from US to Indonesia. You only have to pay the shipping cost from its office to your home. Isn't it great? I bought some of my hardcover books from the website and it's satisfying. The service is fast and excellent, though the customer service is really bad sometime. Also some of the books are in wrong category. I bought two hardcovers which turned out to be paperbacks. It was really disappointing sometime, but I'll still recommend Periplus.com. Periplus is so far the best bookstore. It has the best price and discount.

3. Aksara 

This is like the coolest bookstore ever! Well, technically it's not a bookstore, but there are some books here. You can find indie band CDs and lots of cute and weird stuff. Most of the books here are classic.

I'd say this store is dedicated for fellow hipsters and also rich South Jakarta citizens. The price is insanely expensive. I never bought anything here.
Aksara is located at Plaza Indonesia and also Kemang district. Go check this cool store if you happen to be at the area!

4. Gramedia

As you know Gramedia is the biggest bookstore in Indonesia. There are literally Gramedia at every mall in Indonesia. Most of the books are local books but if you're lucky you can find imported books as well.

Most of Gramedia that have imported books are the ones that located in South and Central area of Jakarta. Grand Indonesia, Pondok Indah Mall, Central Park are few that has imported books.

The price is so much expensive than Periplus, but it's cheaper than Aksara and Kinokuniya.


5. Books & Beyond

It was known as Times Bookstore until it changed its name into Books & Beyond.

There are only few Books & Beyond stores around Jakarta: Plaza Senayan, Pluit Village, Pacific Place.
The biggest store is the one at UPH karawaci.

It has a really cheap book compare to other books store, but it has the smallest store and also only few interesting collections.
If you happen to have the member card of Books & Beyond, you have a really great privilege. Not only you get 10% discount for every purchase without minimum payment, you also get special discount for its monthly promo starting from 20% off discount.

It's now developing an online bookstore as well. The price is cheaper and for member card holder will also get 10% discount for every purchase online. Not only that, for every purchase more than 100.000 IDR you get free shipping (For Jakarta area only). Great, isn't it? I've been buying my books from Books & Beyond this April and I'm satisfied. The process is really fast. You order the book, you pay it and confirm your payment. In about few hours, you will get an email, informing you that your item is now ready to ship. Everything happen in one freaking day! I highly recommend the online bookstore.
Oh yeah, as for the collection on the website isn't that satisfying but it's quite good. I'm hoping for more collections in the future.

2. Percy Jackson & The Olympians #5: The Last Olympian By Rick Riordan


So I bought this from Periplus website. This is the last book of The Percy Jackson series. There was a special discount for this one. It was only 40.000 IDR. I haven't bought the rest of the series. I only have Sea Of Monsters. But since I'm planning on finishing this series, I thought why not buying the last book anyway. It's cheap.


3. Looking For Alaska By John Green


So one of my mission was read all John Green's book. I got an 50.000 IDR E-Voucher from Periplus. I got it by exchanging my points from buying books. So I used it to buy two John Green's book and this is one of them. I've read this one and to be honest, I didn't think it was good enough. It was okay. I liked it. But the book was too predictable and the plot was kind of flat.


4. Paper Town By John Green


This is the other John Green I was talking about. Paper Towns. I've read the first hundred pages and just like Looking For Alaska, I don't really like it so far. It's boring. It started really great and funny then when it reached page 80, the storyline just got flat and boring. I don't really think I'd like any other John Green's books except The Fault in Our Stars. This might piss you off if you're a John Green's fan, but I'm not planning to read his previous books before TFiOS.

5. THE HUNGER GAMES TRILOGY HARDCOVER BOX SET

Hey, it's May already!
Went to Grand Indonesia today and got myself a new book. I hate myself for picking up this book. My worst decision ever.

My first book of May is:

I wasn't supposed to buy any books this month. But when I heard that Periplus was having 50% off book sale, I couldn't help it. Just if you wonder, the sale is still on until May 5th. I warn you, don't put your expectation too high for the book sale.

Yesterday, I went to Pondok Indah Mall a.k.a PIM. I was hoping to get lots of cheap books. The books were actually cheap but the condition were ugly. I was about to buy: Pure By Julianna Baggot but the condition of the book was terrifying, so I decided not to buy it. Most of the books that have been on sale were in Mass Paperback and I hate Mass Paperback. I can't read a book with suck paper quality.

In the end I didn't buy any books from Periplus. But it didn't mean I didn't get new book. So I went to Kinokuniya and bought one book. I couldn't help it. It was Hardcover and the price was crazy.

It was only 117.000 IDR. Not it wasn't on discount, it was the original price. I didn't really understand how the hardcover could be much cheaper than the paperback. I just bought it without any second thought.

The main reason I've been wanting to read this book is because my best friend from Junior High wrote a similar book like this one. Well, her book isn't published whatsoever. It's not even finished yet. But the similarity between hers and Cass is just ridiculous!
So yeah, that was why I decided to buy this one. Besides, it was so cheap. I couldn't help it.

The thing about me, I always reorganized my bookshelf everytime I buy new books. Here some pictures of my new organized bookshelf.

Okay, The Selection is my last book for this month. I think I won't buy any new books for the next couple of months. I will save my money for something else and will try to finish books that I haven't yet read.

First of all, I'd like to announce happily that my National Exams had finally over. After four days of madness and struggle, I'd finally finished my study. I know the announcement hasn't come out yet, but I'm quite sure I'm gonna pass. I have to or else I'd write my suicide note in this blog. (Just kidding; Not kidding)

School had been really hectic and I had no time to read anything. Since school is finally over, there's going to be a payback! This month I got quite much books. I know in my previous post, I told you guys that I won The Hunger Games Box Set from Periplus. So why it isn't in my book haul this month?
Well, they did a mistake. They promised me The US box set but what I got was Asian Edition box set and the books were torn and folded. It also had "Damaged Book" label on it. I complained about my inconvenience and since the box set was out of stock, they offered me a Periplus voucher worth 200.000 IDR instead. I took the offer and got City of Lost Souls and Struck By Lightning.

I'm currently have no The Hunger Games series in my bookshelf except Mockingjay. I'd sold my translated copy and currently saving up my money to get the first two books before Catching Fire movie is released.

I replaced my translated copy of Clockwork Angel as well to match my other Infernal Devices series.
I know Clockwork Princess technically is not an April's book. But the book was arrived on April, so yeah....

I won't buy anymore books because I've spent so much money for books lately and I'm currently broke because of my farewell trip with they guys to Bali this May.

For you who had school done like me, Congratulation guys you've done your best! Now go to your bed, act like a lazy pig for a day because you deserve it!
For you who still having school for the next couple of months, yes I know your life's suck. Hahahaha, Just kidding. Good luck with your school.

P.S: For this long holiday, I'll be starting on writing again. I have this huge ideas of Dystopian World and I'm currently developing it. Wish me luck guys!

Today is Friday, which means it's only a week away from the most terrifying part of being a national school student in Indonesia, National Exams. After being so terrified and depressed, I had nice things happening to me at the beginning of April.
There were two things that just happened (hopefully there will be more)

The first one... It's here people.. It's here...

Yep, my hardback copy of Clockwork Princess By Cassandra Clare. When I held the book in my hand for the first time, it didn't feel right. I think I'd prefer the Paperback but... meh...
I just want to read it right after I got it, but I still have 200 pages of Beautiful Creature that need to be read. I really hate school right now for taking away my reading time.

The excitement didn't end right there.

Periplus twitter account (@Periplus_Store) was having a contest for April Mop. The prize for the winner was this beautiful box set.

Yes people, I won it! I still can't believe that I could win the contest.
I was going to get the box set last month, but I decided not to get it because I didn't have much money. Thank God I didn't buy the box set!

April has been amazing so far. I can't wait for another surprises.

I can't believe March is almost over which means my National Exam is only two weeks away. So not ready!
In the middle of school madness and being really hectic, I've managed to read and buy some books this month. I need to say, this month I've gone crazy with books.

Starting from my March Wrap Up. I read 5 books! I've never read more than two books a month and this is my best achievement in my reading challenge so far.

I did enjoy Legend, Clockwork Prince and The Lost Symbol. But I wasn't really into The Fault in Our Stars and Enclave. I don't know if I'm going to get the second of Enclave, but hopefully I can save some money to get it, just to complete my collection.

Next, March Book Haul!
I thought I wasn't going to get new books for this month because I'm currently saving my money for my very long holiday after the National Exam. But I couldn't help myself not to buy Clockwork Princess when it came out. There was also a special discount on Periplus.com. So yeah, at last I got four books for this month.



For this month I got:
1. Beautiful Creatures By Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl; The first book of the Caster Chronicles.
2. Beautiful Chaos By Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl; This is the third book of the Caster Chronicles. Got it for only 25.000 IDR. The book condition is terrible. The top edges has turned yellow. Not to mention the poor condition of the other edges. But for only 25.000 IDR, I guess it's worth it. I'm going to get the second book asap.
3. Uncommon Criminals By  Ally Carter; This is the second book of The Heist Society. I got the hardcover for only 50.000 IDR. I haven't read the first book. I think I'm going to skip the first book and read this first.

My hardback copy of Clockwork Princess hasn't arrived yet. Apparently it's still in process of shipping from the US. Periplus just e-mailed me, telling me that it will takes another week for the book to arrive. I guess I'll just have to wait.
The worst part is the paperback version is already available at all bookstores! Damn..... I'd probably be the last person to read the last book...
This month I got all these books that should be for girls. I know.... Mock me for that. I don't really care. I'm just interested with the whole caster things and the thievery.

How's your Sunday so far?
Mine? Despite from all the exams I'm still having this week, it's nice.

This morning, I had my first violin concert. I was so nervous, thank God it went pretty well. I did some minor mistakes, but you couldn't be perfect at your first time, right?

So I played duet with a girl named Angela, we played The Prayer. I really love that song, so yeah I did enjoy playing it for my first concert.

Right after the concert finished, I went to a book store.. Well, after a long exam weeks and being under pressure, I need to buy books. Just to cheer myself.

It was kinda surprising when my mom let me buy a book. She never really liked my reading madness. But today, she bought me one.


Beautiful Creatures By Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl. I really wanted the original cover of it, but Periplus only had the movie tie in edition so I guessed, Why not?
In Indonesia, the movie hasn't come out yet. So I still have plenty of times to finish this before I watch the movie. I don't really know why I'm so curious with the Caster series. Right after I watched the Beautiful Creatures movie trailer, I fell in love with it. It captivated me. Not to mention the soundtrack!
I love Florence & The Machine and their song, Seven Devils, fits perfectly with Beautiful Creatures.

This book is quite thick. Around 500/600 pages, I'm not sure. Well, I'm still reading The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown which is super thick!  I don't know when exactly I'm going to start with Beautiful Creatures, hopefully soon enough.

My copy of Clockwork Princess is still in its way to my home. It will probably arrive next week. Lots of booktubers have it in their book haul and I just can't wait!

Oh yeah, I have to mention this!
I'm doing a quite fun thing for christmas (Call me a weirdo), so I'm saving all the small change in this ugly moneybox which I bought for only 3.000 IDR


So what's the point of doing this?
I never got any christmas gift, since my parents don't celebrate christmas.
So I guess, why not buy myself a christmas gift?
That's when I have this idea of saving all the small change until the christmas. I'll buy lots of books as my christmas gift then, using the small change I've been saving. Pretty fun, right? (Or not)

Hey guys!
This month is mad. School has been really hectic with all the try outs and the exams. I can't believe I'm only two weeks away from the National Exam. It's really freaking me out. I'm not a smart guy, so I'm concern that I'm going to fail, but hopefully I have to get this through and I know I won't fail the exam!

This month, I've had make a long list of my most wanted books. Here it is..

1. Delirium By Lauren Oliver

As most of you guys know, Delirium is going to be a TV Show soon with Emma Roberts as the main character, Lena. I'm a big fan of dystopian and it's a shame that I haven't read this best selling dystopian. I'll definitely read this before the TV Show comes out.

2. Uglies By Scott Westerfeld


This is like a really old dystopian before The Hunger Games & Divergent were released. I know lots of people been talking about this dystopian and I really love the concept of this book. I'll totally buy the box set since it's so much cheaper.

3. Gone By Michal Grant


Another dystopian in my list. Gone By Michael Grant. This cover is a reprint edition and I hate it so much. I prefer the old cover, it's so much cooler. This cover make this book look like a cheesy romance book. Heard lots of good reviews about this one, I'll buy this possibly next month.

4. Battle Royale By Koushun Takami


 Lots of people comparing this with The Hunger Games. They say that Hunger Games is rip off from this book by Japanese author, Koushun Takami. The reason I really want to read this book is not to prove whether this book is similar to Hunger Games or not, but because I love hardcore book. Lots of people tell me that this book is gruesome and also sadistic, and I love those kind of things. So yeah, I'll definitely read this as soon as possible.

5. Prodigy By Marie Lu



I read the first book, Legend couple of weeks ago and I need to say this series is AMAZING! I love everything about this series and I gave the first book five stars out of five. The plot, the characters, everything is so perfect. I'm so excited to get the second book!

6. Unravel Me By Tahereh Mafi



Look at the freaking cover! It's so beautiful and I can't wait to get this sequel! Shatter Me was good, I still hate the writing but I'm so curious with this sequel. I don't know when exactly I'll buy it, but maybe I'm going to wait until the paperback is released.

7. Beautiful Creatures By Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl



This book seems girly, but I'll still get it anyway. The movie hasn't come out here in Indonesia. So I guess I still have sometime to read the book first. Lots of different rate and review for this book, some like it some just hate it. I'll judge this book by my own.

8. The Knife of Never Letting Go By Patrick Ness



I don't know anything about this book, but lots of bootubers love it. So I'll give it a try. Do you guys have any thought about this one?

Oh finally, it's March! I can't believe I've passed the first two months of 2013. Anyway, I'm doing another Book Haul this month!

Last month, I'd only got three books in English, Clockwork Prince, The Fault in Our Stars and this the ones I bought on the last day of February;


Enclave By Ann Aguirre. I saw this book on January at Periplus and it just caught my eyes. The cover was okay, but the synopsis was amazing. I think I'm going to love this book.

I didn't actually buy all the books I got on February. Some of them, I got from a giveaway on Twitter.


Both in Indonesian and now I have two copies of The Power of Six....

I'd only managed to read two books last month. School's been really hectic and I've no time to sit down, relax and read books.

The worst book of the month goes to:


I hate the cover in every way. I was hoping to get the original cover and I got the movie cover instead... Suck. So does the story.
I hate it. This is the most boring and predictable book. Everything is about LOVE and DRAMA and I don't like that kind of book. In fact, I'm now selling this book on KasKus because I can't stand seeing this trashy book in my bookshelf.

Guess what, my bookshelf is once again, full. I don't know where all the other books need to be placed.


February was amazing. March is so much better. I can't wait to get Clockwork Princess and Dualed. Hope you have a nice weekend!

What did you do for Sunday?
So yesterday I went for a movie at Grand Indonesia, I'm joining BlitzClub Nonbar event. It was a very good deal. 25 IDR for a movie ticket and I also got one drink and snack.
The movie was 3AM 3D, a thai horror movie. The review will coming up later.

Do you believe in coincidence? I watched  3AM in 3D at nearly 3 PM and my seat was E-3. Too much 3 for that day. 3AM is an omnibus movie, a movie which indicates different stories in it. This is not the first thailand movie which uses this concept. The other famous horror omnibus from Thailand: Phobia, Phobia 2...

After the movie, I had a nice tasty burger. You know, there's nothing more exciting than a tasty burger on Sunday. I'd only spent 32 IDR for Burger, Fries, Ice Lemon Tea and Ice Cream. That was a pretty good deal.

The last reason why I was so in love with my Sunday, I got another book (yes,again!). I'd spent countless money for books this month and it has to be stopped soon!


The Fault in Our Stars By John Green.
People have been talking about this book and I'm dying to have it! I don't really want to read it, I just want to have it because the book cover is so freaking cool! I got the paperback edition since the hardcover was out of stock.....and of course, it's way more expensive.
John Green's TFiOS won the Goodreads Awards 2012 and it's rated 4.13 out of 5. So it's must be good, right?
I'm still working on with Percy Jackson and The Olympian: The Lightning Thief (I know it's really late to read this), I borrow the book from my school's library. I've reached page 150 and so far it's been good. As soon as I finish it, I'll move on to TFiOS and move forward to City of Ashes, Warm Bodies and try to finish Rise of Nine.

First of all, I'd like to wish you all a wonderful christmas!
I can't believe it's only 5 days before entering 2013. Time moves so freaking fast.

Anyway, How's your christmas? Mine sucks. Spending my days with friends... actually, there were some dick heads with me, so that's probably why my christmas kinda suck.
The good news is I got a christmas present from my sister!

YES YES YES! THE HOBBIT!
I've been wanting this book since I watched the movie. The movie is.... AMAZING! Seriously, you should watch it!
I'm dying to know the end of the story and thank goodness my sister bought it for me. I'm in love with her.
Not only this... I got another book last week. Well, it's not actually a christmas gift, but I count it as one



The Indonesian of Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone is out of print and I think it's not going to be printed anymore. I'm dying for this one and my oh my, my friend gave this to me... for free! Thank you Adrian!

For a bookworm, these two books mean something. Cheer and Joy. Merry christmas!

This week is the best and worst at the same time.
Best, because my room is finally done! Nicely decorated, white wall, new tiles. Everything's just perfect! I cleaned my bookshelf, putting my new books into it... and I think I need a new bookshelf.

Oh yeah, I got that plastic flower from my school's event. I just can't find a reason to throw it away.... so there it is.. (Yeah, I know this is actually not a bookshelf)

Okay, it's on now! The exam week is finally started. I think I still can't handle the pressure. After a very long time being all lazy and not studying, I've finally back on track, reading all the text books whatsoever.


I don't really have anything in mind today, but I just want to share about how happy I was. My copy of City of Bones is finally here. It just arrived this afternoon.

So, I'm still working on my to-buy books list. There's only LOTR Boxset left. I hope I could get it as soon as the exam week is finish

Yesterday, I visited Indo Book Fair, hoping to get lots of books. I was looking for City of Bones and it was out of stock! Fudge...
All the The Mortal Instruments series were 40% off and the one I wanted to buy was out of stock. JUST PERFECT!
I was mad! But nothing to do, so I just wandering around looking for other books. Guess what I found yesterday?

Yes, they were selling The Casual Vacancy! I found lots of book stands selling it, including Mizan. It's 20 % off! A nice deal. The Casual Vacancy Indonesian Version will be available in every bookstore starting this November 30th.

Mizan Book Stand was my favorite! Lots of best-seller books were sold there with a very nice discount! I got Shatter Me for only 45.000 IDR! (Original Price: 65.000 IDR)


It has a glossy cover which really annoys me. I don't like it, but I guess this is a great book to read!
I almost bought Clockwork Angel (Prequel from The Mortal Instruments) but I changed my mind in the very last minute, so yeah, I went home with only one book in my hand.
Not only Clockwork Angel, I was also "this" close to buy The Lost Symbols by Dan Brown! It was 50% off but I decided not to.
So at the end, I went home, ordered City of Bones from BukaBuku.com.
I've spent too much money for books this month!
I'm out of money and yeah.... I guess there won't be any birthday gift for anyone until next month. I feel bad.

I'm still reading The Casual Vacancy. There's no joke when they say it's for Adult. It's for adult! The story is so complicated and there are too MANY characters! I can't even remember all the names!
But I still love it anyway... I mean... It's J.K Rowling's!

Pretty excited tonight! Guess what? I had finally got a chance to watch Breaking Dawn Part 2! Yeah that's right, you can spoil anything about the movie now, I won't care because I know as well about it! Hahahahaha...

Okay, stop with the evil laugh. Tonight was quite relaxing my mind. I need it!

Too bad I watched Breaking Dawn at this lame Cinema that so close from my home. The screen wasn't really good as well as the audio. But good movie is good movie, it didn't really matter.
I know lots of people hate Twilight Saga, I'm not its biggest fan either. As a moviegoer, I think we can't judge a movie without even seeing it first. Because I had watched it and as any other movie lover, I'd say the movie is great! Well-developed. All the cast are amazing. The story is still pretty stupid (I still don't understand how the hell Edward Cullen has his erection. His blood is not flowing anymore!) but other aspects from the movie were quite good, forcing me to take my two thumbs up!
The war scene was freaking cool! Giving me goosebumps attack, I just couldn't help it. I always love Volturi and seeing them back in the movie was great.
Kristen Stewart was magnificent and....HOT! Mackenzie Foy (Renesmee) was incredibly beautiful. This girl will be a superstar! Her acting is good even though she's only 12 years old.
At the end, Breaking Dawn deserves 4 points out of 5!



Look what I got! The Tales of Beedle The Bard (Indonesian Version). The book I've been wanting to buy. I got a nice discount for it, 25%! So I decided to buy it. This is going to be my bedtime story for awhile.
I also saw the Indonesian version of Shatter Me! Also I have to mention this, I SAW THE BOXSET OF THE LORD OF THE RING (NEW COVER; INDONESIAN VERSION) AT THE BOOKSTORE TODAY!
GOSH, I'M FREAKING EXCITED TO GET IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

I have a lot of books that need to be bought A.S.A.P!
Oh yeah, I'm going to visit Indonesia Book Fair at Istora Senayan, either tomorrow or this Sunday. There's a lot of discount for books, and I think I'm going to buy City of Bones there. I'm totally gonna make a post about my visit to Indonesia Book Fair!
Oh yeah, my copy of THE CASUAL VACANCY is being delivered. I guess it will arrive this weekend or Monday. Can't wait for it!
